Perplexity

Perplexity is an AI answer engine that responds to questions with a written answer synthesized from current web sources, with inline citations so the reader can check where each claim came from and follow up. Compared with a traditional search engine it returns a direct answer rather than a list of links, and compared with a plain chatbot it grounds responses in real-time search results rather than only model knowledge. It offers deeper modes that run multi-step research across many sources to produce longer reports, a way to organize related threads into Spaces, the ability to focus a search on academic papers or other specific source types, and file and image analysis. Perplexity has expanded into Comet, an AI-powered web browser where an assistant can act on pages within the user's logged-in session, comparing options, filling forms, and completing tasks, which the company made free to everyone in late 2025. Perplexity has raised large funding rounds at a valuation around twenty billion dollars. It offers a free tier with a daily limit on advanced searches, a paid Pro subscription that raises those limits and adds access to more capable models and features, and a higher Max tier.
