Snipcart is a developer-oriented shopping cart that adds e-commerce to any website by including a script and marking up products with HTML attributes, without adopting a full store platform. It is a common choice for static sites and JAMstack projects built with tools like Astro, Next.js, Hugo, or Eleventy, where a developer wants to keep their existing front end and content workflow and just bolt on checkout. Snipcart provides the cart interface, a hosted and PCI-compliant checkout, payment gateway integrations, tax and shipping calculation, discount codes, subscriptions and recurring billing, digital and physical product support, abandoned-cart recovery, and a dashboard for managing orders, customers, and inventory. Webhooks and an API let developers connect it to fulfillment, CRM, and other systems. Because products are defined in the site's own markup or via a product API, the catalog can live in a headless CMS or a Git repository rather than a separate storefront database. Snipcart is used by agencies and independent developers building custom commerce experiences and small-to-medium stores. It is free to build and test in a sandbox, and production use is billed as a small percentage of sales with a minimum monthly fee once a store is live.
