Mercury is a banking platform built specifically for startups, offering checking and savings accounts, debit and credit cards, and treasury tools through a modern interface designed around how startups actually operate rather than the branch-and-form-based workflows traditional business banks are built around. Founders can open an account entirely online, typically much faster than the in-person process traditional banks require for a new business account, and Mercury's dashboard gives real-time visibility into balances, transactions, and card spend across a whole team without needing to request statements or wait for a monthly reconciliation. Its virtual and physical card program lets founders issue individual cards to team members with spending controls and categorization built in, making expense tracking far less manual than reconciling a single shared company card after the fact. Mercury Treasury lets startups holding larger cash balances, often flush with recent funding, sweep idle cash into money market funds directly from the same dashboard, aiming to make idle venture capital work harder without a separate brokerage relationship. Mercury also offers venture debt and credit products tailored to startups' financing needs, recognizing that a young company's financial profile looks very different from an established small business. It's aimed squarely at venture-backed and bootstrapped startups that found traditional business banking too slow and disconnected from their actual financial workflows.
