## About Whoop

Whoop makes a screenless wearable band and sells it as a membership rather than a gadget, with the hardware included in the subscription. Worn continuously, the device measures heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, skin temperature, blood oxygen, and movement, and the app turns this into three core concepts: Recovery, a daily readiness score based mainly on overnight HRV and resting heart rate; Strain, a measure of cardiovascular load accumulated through the day and during workouts; and detailed Sleep tracking with a recommended sleep target. The idea is to help members balance training and rest, showing when to push and when to back off, and it is popular with athletes, but also with people focused on sleep, stress, and general health. Newer devices added longer battery life and medical-grade features such as ECG and blood pressure insights on the higher tier, along with longevity and healthspan metrics. Whoop is sold through annual membership plans at several price points that bundle the appropriate device, ongoing app access, coaching insights, and hardware upgrades over time; there is no way to buy the band outright without a membership. Whoop also sells apparel with pockets that hold the sensor for wear beyond the wrist, offers a team and enterprise tier for sports organizations and employers, and includes a coaching feature that answers questions about a member data in natural language.
