Rive is a design and animation tool for creating interactive graphics that run in real time inside apps, games, and websites, rather than exported video or image sequences. Designers work in an editor that combines vector drawing, timeline animation, bone rigging, and mesh deformation, and the defining feature is its State Machine, a visual way to wire animations to inputs and logic so a graphic can respond to taps, hovers, drags, scroll position, or values passed in from code. A single Rive file can therefore contain a fully interactive button, an animated onboarding illustration, a game character, or a data-driven chart, and it stays small because it ships as instructions rather than rendered frames. Rive provides open-source runtimes for many platforms, including web, React, iOS, Android, Flutter, and game engines like Unity, so the same file behaves consistently everywhere. It also supports collaborative editing, version history, and a growing set of 3D features. Rive is used by product teams for micro-interactions and empty states, by game studios for lightweight UI and characters, and by marketing teams for interactive web pieces. It offers a free plan for individuals and hobby projects, with paid team plans adding collaboration, more projects, and revision history.
