## About Retool

Retool is a development platform for building internal tools, the admin panels, dashboards, and operational apps that companies need but rarely want to build from scratch. Developers drag prebuilt components like tables, forms, charts, and buttons onto a canvas, wire them to data by writing SQL or API queries against databases, REST and GraphQL endpoints, and dozens of prebuilt integrations, and add logic in JavaScript, producing an app in a fraction of the time a bespoke front end would take. Retool handles the surrounding concerns that internal software needs, including authentication and single sign-on, granular permissions, audit logs, version control, and the option to self-host for data-sensitive environments. It has expanded beyond app building into workflows for scheduled and event-driven automation, a database, and, since 2025, AI features that generate whole apps from a natural-language description and agents that can take actions, which the company monetizes through prompt credits and agent hours. Retool is used by engineering and operations teams at companies of all sizes, and it has grown to a valuation around three billion dollars. It offers a free tier for small teams, with paid plans priced per standard and end user, plus usage-based charges for the AI capabilities.
