## About Botpress

Botpress is a platform for building, deploying, and managing AI agents and chatbots, rebuilt around large language models after starting as an open-source conversational framework. It combines a visual studio for designing conversation flows and autonomous behavior with an approach that treats agents as code, offering a TypeScript SDK, a command-line interface for scaffolding and deployment, and an open-source, community-maintained library of integrations for services like Slack, WhatsApp, Gmail, Notion, and many others. Agents can draw on knowledge bases built from documents, websites, and structured data, call tools and APIs, hand off to humans, and run across multiple channels from one configuration. Botpress supports connecting different underlying models, including those from OpenAI and Anthropic, and includes an autonomous engine for agents that decide which steps to take rather than following a fixed script. The SDK, CLI, integrations, and plugins are open source under a permissive license, while the hosted runtime is Botpress Cloud, which has a free pay-as-you-go tier and usage-based paid plans. Botpress reports a large developer community in the hundreds of thousands and is used for customer support, lead qualification, internal assistants, and other conversational applications by individual builders and companies alike.
